TechCrunch: D-ID’s new mobile app uses AI to make videos from photographs

D-ID is bringing its AI video technology, the Creative Reality Studio, to a new mobile app now available on both the App Store and Google Play. Users can create AI videos featuring digital representations of themselves, historical figures, fictional characters, and more. The app offers options for over 119 languages, different voices, and tones of speech, making it versatile for various needs. The videos can be up to 10 minutes in length and are subject to moderation policies to prevent misuse.

D-ID uses a combination of proprietary and open-source AI video technologies. “At its core lies a foundational model capable of generating video frames based on audio input. All its products are powered by its robust API with the ability to render video at an industry-leading 100 FPS, four times faster than real-time rendering,” says D-ID CEO Gil Perry.

The app is designed for businesses, AI enthusiasts and anyone interested in creating videos with digital characters. Before the mobile launch, the desktop version of Creative Reality Studio saw significant user engagement, with over 150 million videos created using the platform. Existing desktop subscribers can keep their plans; a 14-day free trial is available. “The app enables video generation on the go, reducing the cost of production at scale, and allows the flexibility to produce videos anywhere,” Perry says.
